Surgical Referrals

Veterinary Surgeon James Wood holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery and is experienced in many orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries.

James and the team now accept referrals from other practices across Leeds and the rest of Yorkshire for a range of operations including cranial cruciate ligament surgery, fracture repair and brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS).

We pride ourselves on our friendly, approachable and personal service whilst also offering the highest quality of first-opinion care for your pets. All our surgical referrals therefore include an admit appointment, discharge appointment and all post-operative appointments with James. This ensures you can talk directly with the surgeon who will be operating on your pet and James can discuss the procedure in depth and any concerns you might understandably have.

Which surgeries can my pet be referred for?

Leeds Veterinary Centre now accepts referrals for a wide range of surgical procedures - both orthopaedic and soft tissue. These include:

  • Cranial cruciate ligament surgery - CCWO (cranial closing wedge ostectomy) or TTA (tibial tuberosity advancement).

  • Fracture repair including plating, tension band wire, external fixator.

  • Stabilisation and repair of luxating patella

  • Femoral head and neck excision (FHNE)

  • TECA (total ear canal ablation)

  • BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) surgery

  • Perineal hernia repair

  • Perineal urethrostomy

  • Gastro-intestinal surgery including foreign body removal, intussusception, biopsies, intestinal resection

  • Tumour removal

Most surgeries are day-procedures and your pet will be discharged to go home the same evening. Our wonderful out-of-hours provided Swift Emergency will occasionally take over the care of any critical patients or those who need a bit more care for the first night after their procedure.

Please contact the practice or speak to your current vet if you would like to find out more about surgery with James and the Leeds Veterinary Centre team.
