Meet our lovely team!
Katherine Claxton BA VetMB CertAVP(SAM) MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon & Director
Katherine is one of the vets and founders of Leeds Veterinary Centre and graduated from Cambridge Vet School in 2008. She loves being a vet and can't imagine doing anything else! The best bit for Katherine is the variety of the job - every day is different - and she really enjoys meeting owners and their wonderful pets.

Katherine has a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Small Animal Medicine and is especially interested in cases such as heart disease, liver and kidney illness, hormone disorders and skin and ear problems. She's also one of LVC's Cat Advocates.

Outside of work she enjoys walking, running, gardening and crafting - though with mixed results! She owns four rescue cats: Minnie, Auri, Ralph and Camille - all gorgeous!
Vanessa Wood BVM&S MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon and Director
Vanessa is one of the practice owners and joined our team as a vet in 2023. She graduated from The University of Edinburgh in 2004 and has worked in small animal practice ever since. Becoming a vet was destiny for her - her initials were VET before getting married! Work has taken her as far afield as Australia and New Zealand but after marrying a Yorkshireman (hi James!), she was delighted to settle in the best county of all!
Working as a GP vet fulfils both her greatest work pleasures - getting to know the pets and their owners.
Outside of work she has two children, a Border Terrier called Pip and a husband to keep her busy! When she gets the chance, she loves any outdoor sports, planning holidays and being in or by the sea!
Melody Chatwin RVN
Head Veterinary Nurse
Melody is a Registered Veterinary Nurse and joined us in Summer 2023 and since May 2024 has led our Veterinary Nursing Team. Melody qualified in 2003 and has worked in many different areas of small animal practice. She can't imagine doing anything else!

Mel's favourite thing about nursing is that no two days are the same! She has a particular interest in nurse consultations as she really enjoys meeting pets and their owners, and helping them to stay happy and healthy. Mel has done a great job rolling out weight clinics this year to help reduce pet obesity.
Outside of work she enjoys a busy family life with her partner and two children. She has two naughty rescue kittens called Randy and Rory who are always up to mischief but adorable nonetheless!
Hollie Chappell
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Becoming a vet nurse has been a life long ambition for Hollie. She knew from an early age that she wanted to work with animals and fell in love with everything related to veterinary nursing when she had a chance to complete work experience in 2010. Hollie went on to finish college and complete her two years of nurse training, so fulfilled her ambition and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2019.

Hollie has worked across the veterinary world, in first opinion small animal and in a mixed practice, in a busy veterinary hospital and in advanced referral care. She joined us at Leeds Veterinary Centre in August 2024 and is a wonderful addition to our nursing team, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise, and a smiley, caring welcome to all our patients.

Hollie has a keen interest in medical nursing, anaesthesia and emergency and critical care nursing. She enjoys getting to know clients and their pets, being able to support patients through their procedures and watching them get better!

In her spare time Hollie loves going for long walks with her three Golden Retrievers and spending time with her friends and family.
Sara Burnley
Client Care Team
Sara was part of our original team when we opened. She is usually found on reception but behind the scenes also does a wonderful job keeping on top of the mountains of admin we create every day!
Just like Tracey, she loves getting to know our clients and their pets, especially any cute cats who visit us!
She enjoys a busy family life with her husband and two young children, alongside her two rescue cats Chewie and Reggie Pickle.
Amber Miller
Veterinary Care Assistant and Reception Team
Amber joined the team in May 2024 after working in a Veterinary Clinic in Bradford. You can find her in Reception or assisting the Vets and Nurses with patients procedures and caring for any poorly pets in the clinic.
As a Veterinary Care Assistant Amber has developed skills in patient care and handling, lab work, preparing pets before surgery and looking after them in recovery. She also has to look after all the kits and equipment the vets and nurses need to do their jobs, so she is a vital part of team LVC and helps the place run smoothly.
Amber is particularly passionate about patient care and is considering training as a Veterinary Nurse in the future.
At home Amber has a lovely pooch Boux who keeps her busy and active outside of work and loves long walks on the moors.

James is one of the vets and founders of Leeds Veterinary Centre and graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2004. After spending time working in Shropshire, New Zealand and Australia, he returned home to Yorkshire to settle in 2010. James spent eight years as Clinical Director of White Cross Vets in Roundhay before leaving to pursue his ambition of having his own practice.
He enjoy all aspects of the job, but has a particular interest in surgery, gaining his Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2019. He regularly performs complex procedures, including fixing broken bones and repairing cruciate ligament injuries.
Outside work, he has a busy family life with his wife Vanessa, their two children and Pip the Border Terrier. In any spare time(!), he enjoys running, cycling and keeping on top of the weeds on the allotment.

Meet our new veterinarian, Harry, who joined Leeds Veterinary Centre in September 2024.

He holds an advanced qualification in veterinary imaging (for example, x-rays and ultrasound), contributing hugely to the exceptional care we pride ourselves on delivering for our patients.
Harry is passionate about animal welfare and is dedicated ensuring the health and happiness of every pet that comes through our doors. We are excited to have him on board.
Sam Brunning
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Sam joined the practice in January 2024 and soon after completed her training and passed all her exams to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

Sam is so friendly and cheerful and she has fitted right in straight away :) Many of our clients will have met her in nurse clinics and spoken to her on the phone about their pets.

Sam brings with her a great love for animals and a desire to help them thrive and lead happy, healthy lives. Despite only just finishing a long veterinary nursing course she is already planning her next training and wants to continue to develop her nursing knowledge and skills. We are so excited to have her on board and look forward to seeing her grow and flourish as a Veterinary Nurse.

Sam has two cheeky cats of her own to keep her busy at home - Beans and Cheese (great combo!)
Tracey Sparham
Client Care Team
Tracey has been part of our reception team since 2022 and most of our clients and pets will have met her when visiting us.
Tracey loves meeting owners and their pets in reception and has even been known to bring in her own treats for her favourite patients, including carrots for those watching their weight(!)
At home Tracey has plenty to keep her busy with dogs, rabbits, horses and even a few sheep! It's a wonder she finds time for anything else but she always makes sure we're well taken care of after a long day!
Alicja Kobylska
Student Veterinary Nurse
Alicja joined us at the end of 2022 as a Veterinary Care Assistant and has since started training to be a Registered Veterinary Nurse.
She's now in her second year of training at the College of Animal Welfare to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse and she's smashing it!
Alicja loves all things veterinary and is enjoying learning new skills and the huge amount of knowledge veterinary nurses need to have to look after our pets through illness, injury and in health. She loves making patients feel at home while they're away from their family! She's also an expert when it comes to distracting dogs for blood samples, often singing and dancing for them(!)
Alicja owns a cheeky Tortie cat named Tosia who loves thieving snacks lying around... a bit like her owner!
