Meet our lovely team!

Katherine

Katherine Claxton BA VetMB CertAVP(SAM) MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon & Director

Katherine is one of the vets and founders of Leeds Veterinary Centre and graduated from Cambridge Vet School in 2008. She loves being a vet and can't imagine doing anything else! The best bit for Katherine is the variety of the job - every day is different - and she really enjoys meeting owners and their wonderful pets.

Katherine has a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Small Animal Medicine and is especially interested in cases such as heart disease, liver and kidney illness, hormone disorders and skin and ear problems. She's also one of LVC's Cat Advocates.

Outside of work she enjoys walking, running, gardening and crafting - though with mixed results! She owns four rescue cats: Minnie, Auri, Thomas and Ralph - all gorgeous!

Vanessa Wood BVM&S MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon and Director

Vanessa is our newest vet here at Leeds Veterinary Centre, joining us in September. She graduated from The University of Edinburgh in 2004 and has worked in small animal practice ever since. Becoming a vet was destiny for her - her initials were VET before getting married! Work has taken her as far afield as Australia and New Zealand but after marrying a Yorkshireman (hi James!), she was delighted to settle in the best county of all!

Working as a GP vet fulfils both her greatest work pleasures - getting to know the pets and their owners.

Outside of work she has two children, a Border Terrier called Pip and a husband to keep her busy! When she gets the chance, she loves any outdoor sports, planning holidays and being in or by the sea!

Melody

Melody Chatwin RVN

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Melody is a Registered Veterinary Nurse and joined us in Summer 2023. Melody qualified in 2003 and has worked in many different areas of small animal practice. She can't imagine doing anything else!

Mel's favourite thing about nursing is that no two days are the same! She has a particular interest in nurse consultations as she really enjoys meeting pets and their owners, and helping them to stay happy and healthy. Mel has done a great job rolling out weight clinics this year to help reduce pet obesity.

Outside of work she enjoys a busy family life with her partner and two children. She has an Oriental cat named Pixie who is 18 years old and is fairly certain she believes that Mel lives to serve her! And why not?! She thinks cats deserve to be spoilt in their senior years!

Sam Brunning

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Meet Sam, the newest member of our team at Leeds Veterinary Centre. Sam has joined us in January 2024 and has just completed her training and passed all her exams to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

Sam is so friendly and cheerful and she has fitted right in straight away :) Many of our clients will already have met her in nurse clinics and spoken to her on the phone about their pets.

Sam brings with her a great love for animals and a desire to help them thrive and lead happy, healthy lives. We are so excited to have her on board and look forward to seeing her grow and develop as a Veterinary Nurse.

Sam has two cheeky cats of her own to keep her busy at home - Beans and Cheese (great combo!)

Sara Burnley

Client Care Team

Sara was part of our original team when we opened and does a wonderful job keeping on top of the mountains of admin we create every day!

Just like Tracey, she loves getting to know our clients and their pets, especially any cute cats who visit us!

She enjoys a busy family life with her husband and two young children, alongside her two rescue cats Chewie and Reggie Pickle.

James

James Wood BVM&S PgC(SAS) MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon & Director

James is one of the vets and founders of Leeds Veterinary Centre and graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2004. After spending time working in Shropshire, New Zealand and Australia, he returned home to Yorkshire to settle in 2010.  James spent eight years as Clinical Director of White Cross Vets in Roundhay before leaving to pursue his ambition of having his own practice.

He enjoy all aspects of the job, but has a particular interest in surgery, gaining his Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2019. He regularly performs complex procedures, including fixing broken bones and repairing cruciate ligament injuries.

Outside work, he has a busy family life with his wife Vanessa, their two children and Pip the Border Terrier. In any spare time(!), he enjoys running, cycling and keeping on top of the weeds on the allotment.

Lidia.JPG

Lidia Ognissanti RVN

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Lidia is one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses and has been at LVC since we opened. She started working in the veterinary industry in 2015 and fulfilled her dream of qualifying as a vet nurse in 2021.

Lidia enjoys all aspects of nursing but her favourite areas are feline and medical nursing, especially senior pets - nothing makes her happier than a grouchy OAP moggy! She is currently working towards a postgraduate Certificate in Medical Nursing and is very excited about rolling out more nursing clinics! Lidia also manages all our social media and is one of our Cat Advocates alongside Katherine.

She has two cats - Darwin the Ragdoll and a one-eyed foster fail named Picasso! She also has a soft spot for sighthounds as her family dog Winny is a Lurcher.

Danielle and Spencer

Danielle Jones

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Danielle joined the Leeds Veterinary Centre team in December 2022 as a student Veterinary Nurse. After many years of study and hard work Danielle has recently passed her final exams and is now fully qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

Danielle's favourite parts of the job are anaesthesia, assisting the vets in surgery and meeting clients and their pets in our nurse clinics. She's also become quite the laboratory enthusiast recently!

At home she has a sassy queen cat called Lillian and a cheeky little kitten called Spencer who is always getting into mischief. She's also recently begun fostering kittens for Cat Action Trust.

Tracey Sparham

Client Care Team

Tracey joined our team in late 2022 but we often forget she's not been here since the very beginning!

Tracey loves meeting owners and their pets in reception and has even been known to bring in her own treats for her favourite patients, including carrots for those watching their weight(!)

At home Tracey has plenty to keep her busy with dogs, rabbits, horses and even a few sheep! It's a wonder she finds time for anything else but she always makes sure we're well taken care of after a long day!

Alicja_edited.jpg

Alicja Kobylska

Student Veterinary Nurse

Alicja joined us at the end of 2022 as a Veterinary Care Assistant playing a vital role behind the scenes, especially on busy days!

She's now in her first year of training at the College of Animal Welfare to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse and so far she's smashing it!

Alicja loves all things veterinary and is enjoying observing the many different procedures we perform and learning new skills. She loves making patients feel at home while they're away from their family! She's also an expert when it comes to distracting dogs for blood samples, often singing and dancing for them(!)

Alicja owns a cheeky Tortie cat named Tosia who loves thieving snacks lying around... a bit like her owner!
